Germany Reach Knockout Stage After Comeback Win Over Ivory Coast
Germany reached the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stage with a 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast, inspired by two second-half goals from Deniz Undav.
Germany have reached the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after recording their second consecutive win. In the Group E match played in Toronto, Canada, Germany defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 with a comeback victory. Substitute Deniz Undav scored twice in the second half, including the winning goal in injury time, to secure the result for Germany.
Ivory Coast had taken the lead in the 30th minute through captain Franck Kessie and went into halftime ahead. Undav entered the field in the 60th minute in place of Jamal Musiala and scored the equalizer in the 68th minute from Nadiem Amiri’s assist. He then scored again in the fourth minute of injury time from Felix Nmecha’s pass to complete Germany’s comeback. With the win, Germany have six points from two matches and sit at the top of Group E. Ivory Coast remain second with three points after suffering their first defeat. Germany will now play Ecuador in their final group match, while Ivory Coast will face Curaçao.
