Government Bans Strikes in 25 Essential Services

The government has published a notice in the Nepal Gazette prohibiting strikes in 25 essential services. The notice was issued using the authority provided by Section 3, Sub-section 1 of the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014. According to the notice, strikes have been banned in services directly related to the daily life of citizens, public service delivery, information flow and disaster management.

The essential services listed in the notice include transport of passengers or goods by water, land or air, print and government printing services, communication services, drinking water, petroleum products, hospitals, medicines, waste management, banking, insurance, electricity, daily consumer goods and passport-related services. Internet service has also been included in the list of essential services where strikes are not allowed.
