Government to Block 38 Pirated Platforms Ahead of FIFA World Cup

The government is preparing to block 38 platforms that may illegally livestream FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Nepal. The move comes after a recommendation from the media company that holds the official broadcasting rights for the World Cup in Nepal. The company has asked the government to stop unauthorized mobile apps and websites that could violate broadcasting and copyright rules.

S Pro Media Pvt. Ltd., which has received the exclusive broadcasting rights for the World Cup in Nepal, requested the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to block such platforms. Based on the request, the ministry has written to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for necessary action. The authority has started the process of coordinating with internet and mobile service providers to block 38 unauthorized platforms that could operate illegally and violate copyright.
