Gyanendra Shahi Demands Parliamentary Probe Into EV Customs Row
RPP parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi has demanded the formation of a parliamentary special committee to investigate the EV customs duty, budget leak and tax evasion controversy
RPP parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi has demanded the formation of a parliamentary special committee to investigate the EV controversy. Speaking during special time in the House of Representatives, Shahi raised serious questions over the government’s intention in the customs duty changes on electric vehicles, alleged budget information leakage and tax evasion. He said there were suspicions of billions of rupees in revenue loss and demanded a public answer on why vehicles cleared through customs were kept under control for two weeks by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Shahi said that if nothing wrong had happened, the government should explain why the vehicles were stopped. He argued that only a parliamentary investigation committee could bring out the truth. He also criticized Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s border-related statement in Parliament, calling such a remark from the country’s executive head shameful. Shahi accused the government of increasing the tax burden on poor citizens, criticizing decisions related to health insurance cuts, VAT on electricity and taxes on patients under treatment. He said the issue was not a lack of knowledge but a lack of morality in leadership. He also claimed that even after the change in power, the style of governance had not changed, adding that character assassination now takes place through digital platforms instead of street attacks.
