Seulung Settlement in Malika at High Risk of Landslide

Seulung settlement in Malika Rural Municipality-3 has come under high risk of landslide. The risk increased after a landslide that began from the foot of Taksekhola reached the settlement area. Local resident Rabin Khatri said the landslide has already swept away cultivable land and put three houses at serious risk. According to him, the landslide has already washed away farmland enough for two ploughs, and as the landslide has reached the courtyard, it is no longer safe to stay in the houses during the monsoon.

The houses of local residents Karna Bahadur Khatri, Bal Bahadur Khatri and Chitra Bahadur Khatri are at high risk of landslide. Locals said continuous landslides in recent years have also threatened the entire Seulung settlement of around 20 households, hundreds of ropanis of cultivable land and the Adibhara-Dadangau-Sole-Tamankhola road. The nearby land has cracked due to the landslide. Ward Chair Motiprasad Budha said a technical team from the rural municipality inspected the affected area, but immediate control work has been difficult because of the challenging geography. He said efforts are being made to relocate households at risk to safer places and manage water flow to prevent the landslide from worsening.
