A 32-year-old woman from Khotang was found dead near a forest, and police investigation later pointed toward continuous mental pressure, threats, and alleged digital harassment through social media.
In 2083 BS, around 7:30 in the morning, the body of 32-year-old Devi Bista Karki from Khotang was found near a quiet forest area. At first glance, the incident appeared to be a suicide, but as police began examining her mobile phone, social media messages, recent contacts, and digital activities, the case started revealing a deeper and more disturbing story. According to the investigation details made public by police, Devi had allegedly been under continuous mental pressure for weeks. Her contact with Kumar Thapa of Bhojpur was reportedly through Facebook, Messenger, and IMO, with no direct physical meeting confirmed so far.
Police investigation suggested that the nature of the messages gradually became threatening and abusive. The accused was alleged to have sent obscene content, used insulting language, threatened to misuse her photos and videos, and created pressure after she refused to meet him. Following the discovery of her body, police focused on digital evidence, including mobile phones, messages, contact records, and possible deleted files. Kumar Thapa was taken under control for investigation, while digital forensic examination was still awaited. Police suspect that repeated threats and mental harassment through social media may have pushed Devi toward the final decision, but the case is still under investigation and the final truth will be determined only after the court’s decision.
